Happy Lunar New Year from GenDream

Happy Lunar Near Year from GenDream! As we welcome the year of the rabbit, I would like to take a moment to reflect on last year together and thank your dedication.

In 2022, GenDream took upon the energy of the Tiger to experiment boldly: in the Spring Cohort, we expanded our program to include Community Leaders from Singapore, Canada and Pakistan in addition to our US-China focus, making it a truly global endeavor.

Raimaisa Kanwal Community Leader from Islamabad, Pakistan reflected that “It is my goal to have an impact. One of those ways is through starting a social enterprise. I believe GenDream has lent me a big hand in figuring out how one can go about this!”

In the fall class, we took a leap to incubate the social enterprises from the Spring class with mentorship and grants. We supported two project teams: ImmiMD and Culture+. ImmiMD, a medical services platform for immigrant communities grew its team to over 30 members of engineers, translators and business operators while getting ready for a regional launch. Culture+, an organization dedicated to making learning Chinese more accessible, started in-person workshops in North Carolina and a virtual pen pal program registering 70 global participants.

“It was the incredible mentoring and advice that helped team ImmiMD go from our ambitious pitch to a viable product that we can use to start making impacts in our local communities now. This community is what helped launch ImmiMD from an idea to the product it is today”, said ImmiMD lead Amogh Rao.

Lastly, no matter how busy the months were, we stayed in touch and shared our life updates wherever in the world we were. Many of us met in person for the first time. The friendship continues in our many group chats, from sports to hobbies, where community leaders, peer coaches, and coaches alike send photos from their travels, hobbies, and achievements.

With the year of the rabbit representing empathy and agility, we are ready to expand GenDream based on our core mission of building cross-border empathy. We are in the process of becoming a 501C certified non-profit and I hope to provide more updates in the new year.

We are grateful for the unwavering dedication of all our Coaches, guest speakers, our program manager, and parents. Moreover, GenDream could not have gotten to where we are today without the contributions of our supportive donors. Here is how you may continue your support.

May this new year bring you joy, good health, and prosperity!
