GenDream Welcomes 16 Community Leaders from the US and China to the Fall 2020 Class

Meet the Most Diverse GenDream Class

The long-awaited Fall 2020 GenDream program kicked off on September 5th, marking the successful launch of GenDream's 3rd cohort of cross-border community leadership program. The Fall 2020 GenDream class represents the largest and most diverse group to date, consisting of 16 Community Leaders from San Diego, the San Francisco Bay Area, New York City, Las Vegas, Beijing and Hangzhou.

Principal Topic for F20 Class: Access

"GenDream was founded with a mission to provide high school students access to cross-border experiences that used to be available only to a select few. I am excited to welcome this Fall class with the social-economical and cultural diversity that speaks to this mission. Our founding principal 'access ' will also be the theme of the Fall program, under which the Community Leaders will explore social issues exacerbated by unequal access to resources." said Jing Wang, Co-founder of GenDream.

While the Fall 2020 Community Leaders come from diverse backgrounds, they share similar passion to make changes in their local and global communities. Under the theme of "Access", the Fall program Community Leaders will explore solutions to common issues they took notice such as education inequality, transportation access, gender inequality, environmental impact, racial injustice, and homelessness. Some Community Leaders are already making positive impact in their local community and are looking forward to cross-border exchanges.

"I want to learn about the best sex education practices from my peers in the US through GenDream", said Valen Lu, a Community Leader from Shanghai who founded a sex education initiative for teenagers in China.

The Fall program will continue to be a vibrant cross-border community with new and old members. "I am excited to work with a community of mentors and peers who share my passion to foster cross-cultural awareness" said Madeline Tsang, a Community Leader form Palo Alto who spent eight years in Hong Kong. Some past Community Leaders will return as Peer Coaches to help build the GenDream community. "I decided to come back because of the friendships I made and will continue to make" said former Community Leader and current Peer Coach Ben Bao upon his return to GenDream.
